Here’s another hill country gem we found during a recent trip.  With a little “going out”, a bit of “going up”, a nice color palette and a standing seam metal roof to top it all off we have a craftsman inspired transformation:

Before-2

Proposed 031710

Our most recent endeavor is this proposed  addition to the Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church located in east Nashville within an older residential neighborhood.  The leadership’s vision for the expansion is to create a space that is open and inviting to the surrounding community while also providing much needed classroom and gathering space for the church’s social functions.

We took a few cues from the south Texas hill country in this transformation.  Our favorite part?  The new entry composed of a glass box atop a stacked stone base.

When we saw this abandoned gas station in the idyllic town of Boerne, TX it was a bit like love at first sight. I have a natural attraction to old buildings, and I have a passion for Adaptive Reuse projects. This oppportunity brings them both together nicely.

The design proposal converts the existing structure into a multi-use facility for office or retail space. We gave special attention to detailing in an effort to preserve and reinforce the original character of the building, while also addressing issues of solar orientation, shading and street presence.

This little ranch’s overhaul includes a raised roof and dormers, a new  front porch with custom railing, a new room added to the right side, new bay window and last but not least a crisp, clean color scheme pulling everything together.  We call this “Colonial Cottage al Fresco“.

Welcome to our first installment of another ongoing series of posts. Our main goal with this series is just to have fun designing. Our other goal is to provide vignettes that demonstrate how design can affect our built surroundings. We’ll be finding buildings (homes, commercial or otherwise) that we feel need some design love. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do creating them.
